Drivers and Enablers for Distributed Energy Resources:
a) Growth in non-stationary electricity usage - EV cars,
b) Poor alternatives for those residents generating excess solar power. Either the unused electricity is absorbed by the grid or sold back to retail for really low price.
c) P2P energy has higher reach/penetration to those without access to electricity. Similar to how p2p money transfer has helped those who are unbanked.
d) Solar energy catching on with lower cost rooftop PV and incentives by governments to self-supply to reduce load on the grid.
e) Without opportunity to sell excess electricity, those with space and favorable sunlight, don't add additional panels as there is no ROI. That will change with the possibility to sell the excess electricity.
